Water Shut Off Notice

Water/Sewer billings are mailed the first of the months of January, April, July and October.  Immediately after the due date for the water/sewer bill, any past due account will receive a “Past Due Notification Letter”.  If payment or written arrangements are not made to pay off the balance, your water will be shut off.  Shut offs will begin the day after the due date on the “Past Due Notification Letter”.  The event of a turn off, there will be a $40.00 turn off and a $40.00 turn on fee will be added to your next water/sewer bill. If water is turned off, it may take 24 hours before service is reinstated.

The Swartz Creek Department of Public Services general duties and responsibilities include; the provision and maintenance of the City streets, water & sewer utilities, parks and building and grounds. Other services include waste management, brush chipping, snow removal, water meter reading and beautification

Services

Brush chipping is provided from March through October. Cut ends must be toward the road, no larger than 4” in diameter and placed in manageable bundles.

Our DPS is responsible for snow removal on City streets during winter months. Please remember that driveway snow is not to be plowed into the road. Meter reading devices, fire hydrants and sidewalks should all be kept clear of snow. Our DPS also takes care of repairing water main breaks, maintaining main line sewers, water meter reads and repairs, clean up of the City parks and many other duties associated with the maintenance of the City.

Please call City Hall to report water main breaks, request water/sewer services, etc.

Garbage/Recycling waste is handled by GFL. Pick up is every Tuesday beginning at 7am (please consult our City calendar for specifics). Please report any problems with waste collection to the City Hall office.

Utilities

The City offers full service water and sewer utilities to our residents. If you have any comments, questions or concerns regarding water and sewer billing, usage, metering or infrastructure, please contact  Jody Key  at City Hall.

The City does offer a rental program for homeowners renting their property. As part of the program, the renter must submit a deposit (Contact City Offices for deposit amount), a copy of their lease and the renter and owner must fill out a Water Affidavit. With this program, the City closely monitors the renter’s water/sewer bill and does not allow it to go unpaid. If the bill is not paid by the due date, the water services to the residence are turned off until the bill is paid. This program protects the homeowner from a lien on their property due to unpaid water/sewer bills by renters. The deposit is applied to the final bill when the renter moves out. Please contact City Hall for more information.

If you have questions regarding private utility provisions such as phone, cable or gas and electric, or if you are new to the community, the listed utility companies are the primary providers in the Swartz Creek area.

Check here for the current water and sewer rates and billing structure. Water meters are read quarterly around the 20th of the months of March, June, September and December with the bill being sent to residents the beginning of the following month.

Please make sure that water meters have a clear area around them in case of repairs.

STOP THE LEAKS: Did you know…… a running toilet can use up to 2 gallons of water per minute…. That’s up to 7,000 gallons a month!

Ways to check for leaks:

In the toilet: put a dark food color in the tank—don’t flush—if the color leaks down into the bowl—you have a leaky toilet.

Other household leaks: Make sure no water is on in the house and then look at your water meter. If the meter is advancing, you have a leak.
